YOUR WEBSITE GETS 12 VISITORS A MONTH. LET'S TALK ABOUT WHY.

If your plumbing website is getting less traffic than a dirt road in the desert, there's a reason. Actually, there are probably 6 reasons. Let's fix them.

Let's rip the band-aid off.

You paid someone to build you a website. Maybe it was $500. Maybe it was $5,000. Maybe it was your nephew and a case of beer.

And now... crickets.

You check your analytics (if you even have analytics set up) and it says you're getting 12 visitors a month. Twelve. That's fewer people than your Thanksgiving dinner.

And half of those visitors are probably you, checking to see if it still works.

Meanwhile, the plumber two zip codes over is getting 500+ visitors a month and can't hire fast enough to keep up with demand.

What gives?

Here's the Uncomfortable Truth

Your website isn't getting traffic because nobody can find it.

It's not on the first page of Google. It's not on the second page. It's somewhere on page 5, hanging out with the websites that sell discount herbal supplements from overseas.

And if you're not on page 1 of Google, you basically don't exist. 92% of all clicks go to page 1 results. Page 2 gets crumbs. Page 3 and beyond? Ghost town.

So why is your website buried? Let's go through the usual suspects.

Reason 1: You Have No Content

This is the number one killer. And it's the most common mistake plumbers make.

Your entire website is 3 pages. Home. About. Contact.

That's it. No service pages. No blog posts. No area-specific landing pages. Nothing for Google to actually index and rank.

Google ranks PAGES, not websites. If you have 3 pages, you have 3 chances to show up in search results. If your competitor has 30 pages, he has 30 chances.

Who do you think wins that lottery?

You need: - Individual pages for each service (drain cleaning, water heater repair, sewer line replacement, etc.) - Individual pages for each city/area you serve - Blog posts that answer questions homeowners are actually searching for

More pages = more keywords = more chances to show up on Google. It's math, not magic. Here's our guide to building service pages the right way.

Reason 2: You're Not Targeting Local Keywords

If your homepage title tag says "Welcome to ABC Plumbing," that tells Google absolutely nothing useful.

Nobody searches "Welcome to ABC Plumbing." They search "plumber in [your city]" or "emergency plumber near me" or "drain cleaning [your city]."

Your page titles, headings, and content need to include the actual words people type into Google. This isn't keyword stuffing. It's basic common sense.

Every page on your site should target ONE specific keyword. Your homepage might target "plumber in [city]." Your drain cleaning page targets "drain cleaning [city]." Your water heater page targets "water heater repair [city]."

This is SEO 101. And most plumbing websites fail at it.

Reason 3: Google Doesn't Trust You

Google has a trust system. New websites start with basically zero trust. You have to earn it.

How? A few ways:

  1. Google Business Profile. If you haven't claimed and optimized your Google Business Profile, you're invisible in local search. Period. This is non-negotiable. Read our guide to Local Pack optimization for the full playbook.
  2. Reviews. More reviews (especially on Google) = more trust. Plumbers with 50+ reviews consistently outrank plumbers with 3.
  3. Backlinks. When other websites link to your website, Google sees that as a vote of confidence. Local directories, your city's chamber of commerce, supplier websites... these all help.
  4. Consistency. Your business name, address, and phone number need to be exactly the same everywhere online. Google checks this. Discrepancies = suspicion.

Building trust takes time. But if you're not actively working on it, you'll be on page 5 forever.

Reason 4: Your Site Is Slow as Hell

Pull up your website on your phone right now.

Count the seconds.

One Mississippi. Two Mississippi. Three Mississippi.

If it took more than 3 seconds to load, you're losing visitors before they even see your homepage. And Google knows it.

Page speed is a ranking factor. Slow sites get pushed down. Fast sites get pushed up.

Common speed killers: - Uncompressed images (that hero photo of a wrench doesn't need to be 4MB) - Cheap hosting (you get what you pay for) - Bloated WordPress themes with 47 plugins - No caching or CDN

Go to Google PageSpeed Insights and test your site. If your mobile score is below 50, that's a problem. Below 30? That's an emergency. Here's our full guide to running that test.

Reason 5: Your Site Isn't Mobile-Friendly

More than 60% of local searches happen on phones. If your website looks like garbage on mobile, Google won't rank it and visitors won't stay.

Check these things on your phone: - Can you read the text without zooming in? - Is the phone number clickable (tap-to-call)? - Do the buttons work with your thumb? - Does the menu open and close properly?

If the answer to any of these is "no," your mobile experience is broken. And a broken mobile experience is basically a broken website in 2025.

Reason 6: You Built It and Forgot It

Here's what happens with most plumbing websites.

You pay someone to build it. They hand it over. You look at it once, say "looks good," and never touch it again.

That was 3 years ago.

Google loves fresh content. Websites that get updated regularly rank higher than websites that haven't been touched since the Obama administration.

You don't need to overhaul your site every week. But you should be: - Adding a blog post once or twice a month - Updating your service pages with new photos and information - Responding to reviews on your Google profile - Adding new areas you serve

A stale website tells Google (and homeowners) that you might not even be in business anymore.

The Fix Isn't as Hard as You Think

Look, I know this sounds like a lot. And if you're busy running jobs all day, the last thing you wanna do is come home and optimize your meta descriptions.

But here's the good news. You don't have to do this yourself.
