CASE STUDY: SAVANNAH PLUMBER USES BLOG CONTENT TO BECOME THE CITY'S GO-TO EXPERT

How a Savannah plumber went from unknown to the most searched plumbing business in the city. All by writing helpful blog posts homeowners actually read.

Dear Plumber,

"You want me to... write articles?"

That was Marcus's reaction when we told him our strategy for his Savannah plumbing business.

He looked at us like we'd suggested he learn ballet. Marcus is a plumber. A damn good one. 18 years turning wrenches, crawling through crawlspaces, and dealing with things most people can't stomach.

Writing blog posts was not in his job description.

"I'm not a writer. I'm a plumber. Who's gonna read articles from a plumber?"

The answer, as it turns out, was thousands of people. Every single month.

plot twist of the century

Where Marcus Started

Marcus had been running his plumbing business in Savannah for 11 years. Here's the snapshot:

  1. Team: Just Marcus and one apprentice
  2. Revenue: $175,000/year (comfortable but not growing)
  3. Website: Basic 4-page WordPress site. Hadn't been touched in 3 years.
  4. SEO: Nonexistent. Ranked for his business name only.
  5. Marketing: Word of mouth. A few yard signs. A church bulletin ad.
  6. Google Business Profile: 22 reviews, 4.3 stars. Decent but not dominant.

Marcus was surviving on referrals. Which is fine. Until the referrals slow down. Which they do. Eventually.

He needed a growth engine. Something that generated new customers on autopilot. Something that didn't require him to knock on doors or beg for referrals.

We told him: blog content is that engine.

He was skeptical. Very skeptical.

The Strategy: Become Savannah's Plumbing Encyclopedia

Here's the idea we pitched Marcus:

Every time a Savannah homeowner Googles a plumbing question, your website should be the answer.

Not HomeAdvisor's website. Not some random DIY blog. Not a national plumbing chain's generic article. YOUR website. With YOUR name. YOUR phone number. YOUR face.

Because when someone reads a helpful article by a local plumber, and then their toilet starts backing up... who do you think they call?

The plumber who already helped them. Even if that help was just a well-written article.

Content builds trust before the first phone call ever happens. (We break down this concept in more detail in our post on whether blogging is worth it for plumbers.)

The Execution

### Month 1: New Website + First 4 Posts

We rebuilt Marcus's website with: - 10 service pages - 4 location pages (Savannah, Pooler, Richmond Hill, Rincon) - A proper blog section - Fast, mobile-friendly design - Click-to-call on every page

Then we published 4 blog posts:

  1. "How Much Does a Water Heater Cost in Savannah, GA?"
  2. "5 Signs You Need a Sewer Line Inspection"
  3. "Why Your Faucet Won't Stop Dripping (And When to Call a Plumber)"
  4. "The Savannah Homeowner's Guide to Preventing Frozen Pipes"

Marcus didn't write these. We interviewed him for 20 minutes, asked questions about what homeowners always ask him, and wrote the content based on his expertise.

His knowledge. Our words. His name on it.

### Months 2-6: Content Machine

We published 2 blog posts per month. Every single one targeted a question Savannah homeowners actually Google.

Here's a sample of the topics:

  1. "Tankless vs. Tank Water Heater: Which Is Best for Savannah Homes?"
  2. "Hard Water in Savannah? Here's What It's Doing to Your Pipes"
  3. "How to Find and Fix a Hidden Water Leak"
  4. "What to Do When Your Toilet Won't Flush (Before Calling a Plumber)"
  5. "Annual Plumbing Maintenance Checklist for Georgia Homeowners"
  6. "Signs Your Home Needs Repiping"
  7. "Why Your Drain Keeps Clogging (And the Real Fix)"
  8. "How Long Does a Garbage Disposal Last?"

Each post was 500-800 words. Helpful. Practical. Written at a 6th-grade reading level. With a call-to-action at the bottom: "If you've got a plumbing problem in Savannah, give us a call at [number]."

### The Secret Sauce: Local Relevance

Here's what made Marcus's content stand out from generic plumbing blogs.

We made everything local.

Not just "how much does a water heater cost." But "how much does a water heater cost IN SAVANNAH, GA."

Not just "preventing frozen pipes." But "preventing frozen pipes in SAVANNAH" (with specific info about Savannah's climate, soil, and housing styles).

Google loves locally relevant content. A national article about water heaters is competing against millions of pages. An article about water heaters specific to Savannah is competing against... almost nobody.

Local content = less competition = faster rankings = more traffic. If you want to see what a full year of topics looks like, check out our 12-month content calendar for plumbing websites. For deeper SEO tips, Google's SEO Starter Guide is a solid resource.

The Results: 12 Months of Content

### Traffic Growth

| Month | Blog Posts Published | Monthly Organic Visitors | |-------|---------------------|------------------------| | 0 | 0 | 85 | | 1 | 4 | 140 | | 3 | 8 | 480 | | 6 | 14 | 1,600 | | 9 | 20 | 3,400 | | 12 | 24 | 5,800 |

From 85 visitors per month to 5,800. A 6,700% increase. From blog content alone.

### Lead Generation

| Month | Monthly Leads (Website) | |-------|------------------------| | 0 | 3 | | 3 | 12 | | 6 | 28 | | 9 | 44 | | 12 | 62 |

62 leads per month from a website that used to generate 3. All organic. No ads. No pay-per-lead. Just helpful content that ranks on Google.

### Revenue Impact

Marcus's revenue went from $175,000/year to $310,000/year in 12 months.

He hired two more plumbers. Bought a new truck. And finally moved his "office" out of his kitchen and into a real space.

### The Brand Effect

But here's the part that surprised Marcus most.

Customers started calling and saying things like:

"I read your article about hard water and realized I need my pipes checked."

"I've been reading your blog for a while. When our water heater died, you were the first person I thought of."

"My neighbor showed me your article about drain maintenance. Can you come take a look at ours too?"

Marcus became the known plumbing expert in Savannah. Not because of ads. Not because of a fancy logo. Because he shared his knowledge. For free. Consistently.

The Compound Effect of Content

Here's what makes blog content so powerful.

A blog post published in month 1 is STILL generating traffic in month 12. And month 24. And beyond.

Marcus's very first article, "How Much Does a Water Heater Cost in Savannah, GA," has generated an estimated 180+ page views per month. Every month. For over a year.

One article. Written once. Generating leads indefinitely.

Now multiply that by 24 articles. Each one bringing in traffic. Each one building authority. Each one turning a stranger into a potential customer.

That's the compound effect. And it's why content marketing is the single best long-term investment a plumber can make.

"But I'm Not a Writer"

Neither is Marcus. He's a plumber.

He didn't write a single blog post. He talked to us about plumbing. We turned his expertise into content. That's it.

You know more about plumbing than 99.9% of the population. You just need someone to turn that knowledge into articles people can find on Google.

That's what we do.

P.S. Marcus told me last month he got recognized at a hardware store. A homeowner walked up and said, "Hey, aren't you the plumber with the blog? My wife reads your stuff all the time." Marcus still can't believe it. Neither can we. But the leads are real. The revenue is real. And it all started with some articles. See what our clients say and check our pricing.
