THE FONTS ON YOUR WEBSITE MATTER MORE THAN YOU THINK

That decorative font on your plumbing website might look 'unique' but it's killing your credibility. Here's what fonts actually work for plumber sites.

I need to talk to you about something nobody in the plumbing world talks about.

Fonts.

Yeah, fonts. The text on your website. The style of the letters.

I know. Not exactly the sexiest topic. But here's the thing.

The wrong font on your plumbing website makes you look unprofessional, untrustworthy, and outdated. And the visitor won't even be able to tell you why. They'll just feel it. Something will feel "off." And they'll leave.

That's the power (and danger) of typography. It works on a subconscious level.

Stay with me here. This is more important than you think.

The Font That's Killing Your Credibility

Let me guess. Your website uses one of these:

  1. Comic Sans. I'm half joking. But I've seen it. On a real plumbing website. In 2025.
  2. Some overly decorative script font. Because it looked "classy" in the theme preview.
  3. Papyrus. If your website looks like a menu from a Mediterranean restaurant, we've got a problem.
  4. A font so thin you can barely read it. Especially on mobile. Especially in sunlight.
  5. Times New Roman. Your website is not a college essay.

Here's the rule. If the font on your website makes you look like a wedding invitation, a ransom note, or a kids' party flyer... it's the wrong font.

What Fonts Actually Say About Your Business

Typography communicates personality whether you want it to or not.

Bold, clean fonts say: Professional. Confident. Trustworthy. We know what we're doing.

Thin, decorative fonts say: Artsy. Delicate. Maybe not the best choice for someone who needs to bust through a sewer line.

Outdated fonts say: This business hasn't updated anything in a decade. Are they even still around?

Hard-to-read fonts say: We don't care if you can actually use this website or not.

Your font choice sets the tone before a single word is read. Choose one that says "we're professionals who will fix your problem" rather than "we spent 45 minutes on a free website builder picking the prettiest letters."

The Best Fonts for Plumbing Websites

You don't need to overthink this. Here are the fonts that work for service businesses like plumbing.

### For Headlines:

  1. Bebas Neue. Bold, all-caps, strong. Perfect for headlines that need to grab attention. Commands respect.
  2. Montserrat Bold. Clean, modern, professional. Works great for headings.
  3. Oswald. Slightly condensed, strong presence. Good for tight spaces.
  4. Raleway Bold. Elegant but still masculine and professional.

### For Body Text:

  1. Inter. One of the most readable fonts on the web. Clean, modern, works at any size.
  2. Open Sans. The workhorse of the internet. Readable, friendly, professional.
  3. Lato. Warm, professional, excellent readability on mobile.
  4. Source Sans Pro. Made by Adobe. Super readable. Works everywhere.

### The Winning Combination:

Pick one headline font and one body font. That's it. Two fonts. Max.

Our recommendation: Bebas Neue for headlines + Inter for body text. Bold and authoritative up top, clean and readable throughout. These are the same fonts we use on our own sites, and they pair perfectly with the color schemes that work for plumbing businesses.

Too many fonts make your site look like a circus flyer. Stick to two and your site will look cohesive, professional, and trustworthy.

Font Size Matters Too

Even the right font can fail if it's too small.

Body text should be at least 16px on desktop and 16px on mobile. Anything smaller and people are squinting. Especially your target audience (30-55 year old plumbers and 35-65 year old homeowners). Nobody wants to pinch-zoom to read your services.

Headlines should be at least 28-36px on mobile and 40-60px on desktop. Big enough to command attention.

Line spacing (the space between lines) should be 1.5x to 1.7x the font size. This makes paragraphs easy to scan instead of looking like a wall of text.

These are small details that make a massive difference in how long people stay on your site.

Font Weight and Color

Use bold text strategically. Not everything should be bold. Bold the key takeaway in each section. Bold your phone number. Bold your CTA. Let the rest be regular weight.

Never use pure black text (#000000) on pure white (#FFFFFF). The contrast is actually too harsh and causes eye fatigue. Use a dark gray (#333333 or #222222) on white, or white text on a dark background. Much easier on the eyes.

Make sure your text is readable against your background. This sounds obvious, but I see plumber websites with light gray text on a white background, or dark blue text on a dark gray background. If you have to lean in to read it, nobody else can read it either.

The Loading Problem

Fancy custom fonts can slow your website down.

Every font you load is an extra file your visitor's browser has to download. This directly impacts your page speed. If you're loading 5 different fonts in 3 different weights, that's a lot of extra loading time.

The fix: Use Google Fonts. They're free, they're fast, and they're optimized for web performance. And stick to 2 fonts, 2-3 weights max (Regular, Bold, maybe Italic).

If your site uses a custom font that was uploaded separately, make sure it's optimized and compressed. Better yet, see if there's a Google Fonts equivalent you can swap in.

Real Talk

I know this seems like a minor detail. Fonts. Who cares, right?

But here's what I've learned from building plumbing websites.

The plumber with the clean, professional website gets the call over the plumber with the sketchy-looking one. Every. Time. Your first impression is everything.

And typography is one of the biggest factors in whether a site looks professional or amateur. It's the difference between a visitor thinking "this looks legit" and "this looks... weird."

You don't have to become a typography expert. You just have to avoid the obvious mistakes and pick clean, readable fonts.
